A Few Words About Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy was developed by Jeffrey Young, to treat individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, but can also be used with other presentations caused by difficult childhood experiences. Schemas can be described as our belief systems or 'lifetraps'. Schema Therapy is based upon CBT, but it is focused much more on early childhood experiences which have caused lifelong difficulties. Assessment includes the use of questionnaires, enabling the client to understand and develop an ability to improve their behaviour.

Therapy Stages

Schema-Focused Therapy consists of several stages that include the assessment phase, the emotional awareness and experiential phase, and the behavioral change stage.

The Schema-Focused model of treatment is designed to help the person to break these negative patterns of behaving, and to develop healthier alternatives to replace them.

We’ve had a lot of financial troubles over the years; loss of physical health, job and bankruptcy. Terra’s coaching gave us hope and a new sense of vision so we can create our lives together.

I went to Terra because of my shyness and social anxiety. My sessions were useful as I could talk about things that I couldn’t discuss with family, friends or almost anyone.
