Zhonghe

Eat Chinese pancakes on this national coulinary holiday!

By far, the Zhonghe festivity day (or alternatively a festival called after the Blue Dragon out of Chinese mythology) - is the tastiest national holiday!

This one of a kind Chinese holiday originated as part of China’s long agrarian history - and main goal of all the activities during those celebrations is to pay tribute to a Dragon (main Chinese deity being) and to ask this mythical figure for a good harvest.

And with agrarian origins of that festival holding the key to why it is considered the “tastiest” of Chinese days....the specific reasons for that are 2 traditional dishes Chinese people cook on it: pancakes and also the most famous ever Chinese dish - noodles…

And in case you do not enjoy pancakes as a dish, for some reason, the 2nd biggest coulinary highlight of this festival - Chinese traditional noodles - will make it up for you for sure!

Due to holiday’s main custom - a big gathering is held, with all family members attending a festive dinner - famous Chinese pancakes being the crown dish in the centre of the table.

The origins of pancakes’ name, which are also called “Chun bing” or “Spring pancakes” appeared because of the date of the celebrations - which usually fall at the beginning of the Springtime (March) or “2nd day of 2nd Lunar month” according to a chinese traditional old calendar.

And in case you do not enjoy pancakes as a dish, for some reason, the 2nd biggest coulinary highlight of this festival - Chinese traditional noodles - will make it up for you for sure!

Anyways this famous holiday, also called “the Blue Dragon raising it’s head” - is part of the rich ethnic mythology tradition, cultivated in China in forms of fairy tales for children for the last 6000 years.

And it tastes so good!

I agree 100%! Though pancakes are by far not the best of what Chinese or Cantonese cuisine is to offer...
